Why Osteopathy?

» The goal of Osteopathic treatment is to assess and treat the WHOLE person, to get to the root or underlying cause of illness and pain in the body and treat the problem at the source, instead of simply masking the symptoms.

» Practitioners educated in Osteopathy are highly skilled health care professionals with refined palpatory skills developed through many years of extensive and intensive training.

» Osteopathy recognizes that symptoms may not originate in the area in which the patient feels discomfort or pain. There may be several factors contributing to the symptoms that the patient is experiencing. Practitioners are skilled at finding the root of the problem.

» Osteopathic treatment is very efficient, reducing the number of visits required.

What to Expect from a Treatment

Alison uses both Massage Therapy and Osteopathy techniques. Her focus is on the individual as a whole, recognizing that the body is a unified system that cannot be properly addressed as isolated parts. She strives to correct the root or cause of physical symptoms, not just treat the symptoms themselves. Prevention is the ultimate goal of treatment. Physical problems should be treated as early as possible.

Treatment techniques may include:

» Various Massage techniques, such as tapping and kneading
» Osteoarticular corrections - gentle realignment of the bones
» Visceral mobilization - gentle mobilization of the organs of the body
» Cranial osteopathy - gentle movement of the bones of the skull
» Normalization of myofascial tension - restoring normalcy in the muscles and surrounding tissues
» Muscle energy - creation of muscle relaxation through muscle contraction
» Strain counterstrain - a method of relaxing and re-positioning joints
